The Original Lava Lava Lamp is what they're company name actually is, and is also why they came to us for some help. The market was starting to see knock off lamps, odd shaped lamps and the term lava lamp was becoming something they couldn't hold onto, a bit like Kleen-x. The old reputation from the 60s and 70s had not worn off, but was being cut away at by new motion lamps cutting into their once solid dominance. They wanted to make a splash in the market, a renewed image as the original.
We used all the vibrant colors associated with the lamps combined with the primary function, providing light to put emphasis on the trademarked shape of the Original Lava Lava Lamp. The darkening gradient to the edge also allowed for the legal copy to simply knockout at the bottom and not require extra boxes and framing. Ads ran in magazines such as Rolling Stone, Teen People and Seventeen.
On their website we added a function where you could send "lava grams." A simple marquee was added to an email, suggestions for what to write with each headline were also available.
