I helped out a local comedy club, Comedy on State, promote their annual comedy festival. It was the first year they organized the event and needed everything from logo and identity to a look and feel as well as tone for the event.
The identity used two of Madisons founders, James Doty and Lucius Fairchild appearing to shout out the festivals name. Although most Madisonians wouldn't recognize the two of them, it made for a fun conversation starter with the fest organizers and the comedians and audience alike. In a way it became a fun inside joke, only those in the know knew who those two old codgers on the promo materials were.
The festival poster took on a look of old broadsheets. The headshots we got from the talent agents were all over the place as far as quality, so we found a clever solution to that issue by converting them to course halftone bitmaps and applied the fest colors to them. The feel was a wonderful analog, old print, heavy texture vibe.
The individual performance posters stuck to that look with altering color palettes to help created a attention grabbing grid.
