A timber mark is a mark used by lumber company to designate which trees harvested are theirs, and often time what the quality of the lumber is before they head off to the mill. They're made in the shape of hammer as that is the typical method that the lumber is marked. The TimberMark symbol closely resembles what some of the oldest lumber marks looked like.
